Shahani dates, also known as “Shawny,” “Khork Shani,” and “Shani,” boast a delightful sweet flavor and a robust nutritional profile, making them a beloved variety among Iranian dates.

Their popularity extends globally, with a significant demand prompting large-scale exports to various countries.

These dates are renowned for their exceptional sweetness, making them a perfect substitute for sugar. They can be enjoyed as a wholesome snack or utilized in baking and various food industries.

While Shahani dates bear resemblance to Rabbi dates, they can be easily distinguished by their narrower profile.

Originating primarily from Iran, It hail from the Fars province, with Jahrom city serving as their epicenter.

Jahrom boasts over 95% of the palm trees dedicated to cultivating the Shahani variety, believed to thrive best under its climatic conditions.

Though Jahrom is renowned for its Shahani production, other regions in Iran, including Minab, Firouz Abad, and Haji Abad in Hormozgan province, also contribute to cultivation efforts.

The harvesting process for Shahani dates occurs in three stages: Khark harvesting begins in summer, followed by Rutab harvesting, and culminating in the collection of ripe during winter.

Packaging and Storage:

Characterized by their rich, dark brown hue, Shahani dates are typically harvested in late summer, ensuring optimal sweetness and flavor.

To preserve their quality, it’s essential to store Shahani dates in a well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight, maintaining a temperature range between -5°C to 10°C.

Shahani dates are commonly processed through pressing techniques. Post-pressing, they are carefully encased in clean nylon packaging, available in convenient 2 kg, 3 kg, and 5 kg packages. Given their sticky and moist nature, reef containers are recommended for safe transportation.
